Part 4: The Dummy
A “Dummy” is a sketchy version of the book. Illustrators often make dummies before beginning the final art. Dummies are very helpful, because they give an illustrator the chance to see what a book will look like BEFORE he or she spends a lot of time making the final artwork. Dummies are usually quick and easy to make, so artists can feel free to try out lots of different ideas, and even make mistakes, because very few people will ever see the dummies.
