About the time the dummy for this book was completed, Dav Pilkey got a call from Richard Jackson at Orchard Books. Mr. Jackson liked Dav's book 'Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving, and had decided to publish it.

Dav was very excited. He told Mr. Jackson that he had been working on three new books, and asked if he'd like to see those, too.

"Of course," said Mr. Jackson. "Let's take a look."

So Dav quickly made full-color sample covers for all three books...

...then Dav sent the dummy for Dragon's Merry Christmas (along with the dummies for A Friend For Dragon and Dragon Gets By), to Orchard books. A few days later, Richard Jackson called back.

"I'll take these books, too," he said.
