Part 3: The Pitch
When I finally figured out the story, I called my editor, Bonnie Verburg, and pitched the idea to her. A “pitch” is when an artist or writer tells his or her idea to an editor or producer. It’s like pitching a baseball, kind of. But instead of throwing a ball, you throw an idea.

Fortunately, Bonnie liked my idea very much. She said “OK” right over the phone. In just a few short minutes, “Super Diaper Baby” went from being an idea, to being a scheduled, contracted book-in-production.

The next day, my other editor, Anamika Bhatnagar, called and asked me to do some black and white paintings for the catalog. So I whipped these illustrations together and sent them to her in New York.
