Part 4: Figuring out the Story
|
There was no turning back now. The book was going to be announced in Scholastic’s upcoming catalog, so I had to figure out all the details of the story and get started on it right away.
Usually, I find it helpful to make notes on exactly what will happen in a story BEFORE I write it. These two pages are from my first draft…
… and these two pages are from my second draft (made a few days later).
You’ll notice that my second draft had pictures in the margins. I find that it’s helpful to draw while I write, because I often get good ideas from my sketches. In some cases, my sketches can even help me to figure out the personalities of the characters.
