This is the fourth of five books in Dav's beginning reader chapter book series starring Dragon. Dav has always adored his characters (he can't help it). He has always felt very close to them, almost as if the characters in his books are 'real' in a strange (but non-psychotic) way. "Of all the characters I have created, Dragon seems the most real. Sometimes I think he is real. I see him in his little white house, living a life completely independent from me. I used to think of him living all by himself and being lonely,and it made me kind of sad. That's actually the reason why I wrote Dragon's Fat Cat. I didn't want Dragon to be lonely anymore. Now when I think of him, he's living with a cat and five kittens. I know all those felines are keeping him busy." — Dav Pilkey

1. This book was inspired, in part, by Dav's close friendship with his own calorically-challenged cat, "Blueberry". Blueberry is best known as the star of the book, Kat Kong. 2. The story of Dragon finding a cold cat in the snow is almost identical to Dav's own story of how his dog, "Little Dog", was found in the snow. The only weird thing is that Dav wrote this story before it happened to him.
