Happy Birthday Connor Back to Junk, Stuff, and Thingies

Special Note from Dav Pilkey:

This music video came about as a last-minute idea.
Koji had written a song for my nephew, Connor's
birthday present, and we decided to make a music
video to go along with it. We had less than a week
to record the song, and to shoot and edit the
entire video if we were to finish it in time for
Connor's birthday.

So Koji, my wife, Sayuri and I gathered up some
left-over props from the live-action music videos
we had shot almost a year ago. Koji choreographed
a simple dance routine, Sayuri baked cakes and
cupcakes, and I made two frog puppets out of
construction paper and tape. Almost everything
else we used was stuff we already had, or made
ourselves.

Koji recorded his song at night while we all shot
our scenes during the day using Koji's old video
camera.

It was a lot of hard work, but we were having so
much fun, we hardly noticed. After three days,
we had filmed almost everything, so I sat down at
the computer to start editing.

It took a total of five days (and a budget of nearly
$25.00 to create the song and the music video, but
we pulled it off and had a great time doing it.
I hope our silly video inspires kids to make their
own movies and music videos. It's easier and cheaper
than most people realize, and WAY more fun than we
ever imagined!
