Interview: Disney Adventures
Interviewer: Rose Kennedy, Freelance Book Reviewer
Question How do you feel about winning a Disney Adventures Kids Choice Award?
Answer

I feel vindicated! The award came at a good time for me, because some adults at a school in Connecticut recently banned the Captain Underpants books. It's nice to know that kids still have a sense of humor!

Question Could you tell us a little-known fact about your book?
Answer

It's a "Scratch-N-Sniff" book. If you scratch the pages, they smell just like paper!

Question Where did you learn to draw?
Answer

Ohio.

Question How long do you spend writing/drawing each day?
Answer

Usually between one and five hours a day.

Question Do you have any writing rituals or good-luck charms?
Answer

I paint with my dog on my lap. She's my good luck charm, she keeps me warm, and her fur soaks up all those annoying paint spills.

Question What was your favorite book when you were 10?
Answer

Does "Mad Magazine" count as a book?

Question Do you munch on snacks when you're writing?
Answer

Yep. I'm a fool for chocolate chip cookies.

Question When you were writing this book, did you ever consider who you'd want to play the characters if it was made into a movie?
Answer

I had always envisioned Chris Farley as Captain Underpants, but alas, he didn't live long enough.

Question Do you wear boxers or all that is Preshrunk and Cottony?
Answer

Actually, I wear boxer/briefs. They're the best of both worlds.

Question Do you have any well-wishes for Disney Adventures on its upcoming 10th anniversary?
Answer

Yes: Keep up the good work, and who knows? ...maybe someday the word "Disney" will become a household name.
